Applications
Emergency Backup
On-grid the Ortronic technology can function as a UPS (uninterrupted power supply). In this application the device provides 21 hours of backup power in the event of a power failure. Current (non-Ortronic) UPS devices can only offer minutes of backup power. No other UPS system in the world can offer 21 hours of uninterrupted backup.
Energy Savings
On-grid - In this application the device functions on-grid to create significant energy savings. The devise allows the user to use grid power for a minimum of 3 hours a day. The system uses its backup power potential to take the user off the grid for as long as 21 hours a day.
Solar - Because of the high price of solar panels (about $5 per watt) most solar users are only able to account for about 20-35% of their consumption needs from their solar array. This means that the other 80-65% of their electricity is still provided by the electric company. Ortronic technology is the only cost effective way to use solar panels to achieve 100% off-grid electricity. Alternatively the Ortronic system can also be used to increase the output of a solar array by utilizing reactive energy. In this application Ortronic technology reduces the number of solar panels needed and creates significant savings in solar panel purchases.
Wind - Today nearly all wind generation is through the use of synchronous turbines. This means that the turbine speed is "in sync" with the grid in terms of frequency fluctuation. This is a must because frequency variation causes the grid connected to the turbine to overload and fail. Because of this wind speeds have been divided into two categories, VMI and VMA. VMI refers to all wind below a speed where it can be used. If the wind speed is below VMI the turbine must receive power from the grid to be synchronized. This means that the turbine is actually consuming power rather than generating it. VMA refers to all wind above a speed where it can be used. If the wind speed is above VMA the turbine must be slowed down to achieve synchronization. This means that all wind above this speed is not used and is wasted. Ortronic technology controls the frequency variations so that asynchronous turbines can be used. This eliminates the need for a VMI and VMA value. In effect 50% more wind can be used because of this. In addition to this the Ortronic system utilizes reactive energy to increase the output of the turbine. In this way the Ortronic devise more that doubles the output of a synchronous turbine, and makes wind a viable replacement for fossil fuel based generation sources such as coal and oil.
Diesel - When used with a diesel generator the Ortronic technology is able to save 70% of the fuel that would be required for normal operation. A generator using Ortronic technology only needs to be run for 3 hours a day to produce 24 hours of power. This not only saves fuel, but also reduces maintenance costs associated with normal generator usage, and extends the life of a generator from about 4 years to 28 years.
